| In 2024, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and other organizations jointly released 37 new global blueberry varieties, including 22 southern highbush blueberries, 1 northern highbush blueberry, 1 highbush blueberry, 2 evergreen blueberries, 2 rabbiteye blueberries, and 9 unknown types. The data indicate a significant increase in southern highbush varieties and the emergence of unclassified cultivars. This paper systematically presents the quantitative distribution and phenotypic traits of these 2024 varieties, analyzes historical breeding trends, and forecasts future directions in global blueberry improvement, aiming to provide a scientific foundation for China’s blueberry breeding programs. |
